PLEASURE PRACTICE GROUP
at Gather, Brighton

Pleasure!!! I say we need more of it, especially in these trying times. Especially to discern between pleasure as a life-giving technology inside our miraculous bodies that makes us more capable and alive vs. the “never-enough” scarcity-driven pleasure-seeking manufactured by capitalism.

Pleasure Practice Group is a facilitated space and a collective field to recommit to pleasure, embodiment, play, the Erotic, and to expand our uses and practices of sexuality. And to feel some pleasure, yes!

Facilitated by soil.

Each week will highlight and explore a new topic. As the group evolves, the topics will be guided by the desires of the participants. We will stay connected via a Telegram group for exxxtra pleasure research.
WHAT WILL WE DO?

Each session will contain:
1. guided embodied exercise
2. practical exploration time
3. discussion

Your study in this group can be hands-on or hands-off. Everybody is free to make whatever choices they want, and refusal is always welcome.

I would say it is a sex-positive, touch-positive and body-positive space, however, those are not the best terms because they might presuppose inherent goodness. So I use the term sex-possible (expressions of sexuality are welcome), touch-possible (touch might happen here if you want), and body-possible (we are swimming in body possibilities).

WHAT IS OUR PLEASURE THEORY?

Our pleasure theory valorises queerness, disability justice, PIC abolition, accessibility, poetry, neuroqueering, ecosomatics, kink, BDSM, liberated consent, limit consent, transformative justice, liberatory harm reduction, trust, conflict, expanded/expansive sexuality, the Erotic, Land Back movements, transness, intuition, spirit, relationships evolving possibilities.

This money covers the cost of the accessible venue hire, fees for the facilitator and their disability access support worker.

Group is limited to 12 participants.

ACCESSIBILITY

Gather is a central wheelchair-accessible venue near Brighton Train Station. Read their access statement.

Everything is an invitation, and you are encouraged to reinvent, repurpose, and refuse the prompts and do what feels best to you. We keep asking “how can this feel even better?” even if the answer is to go do something else.

PPG explores pleasure, including bodily and sexual pleasure. The space is not sex-negative (where sex is seen as inherently bad) or sex-positive (where sex is seen as inherently good), but it is sex-possible (sexuality is welcome here). Everyone is invited to explore what sex is and isn’t for them, while helping shape new collective definitions. All sessions are different, so if you have questions, please get in touch

It is a study group that is not afraid of practice — or to say 'no' to practice. If you have trouble with that, please make sure to attend self-consent sessions. We are all here on our own journeys, and contribute to the collective pool of knowledge with our individual pleasure research, interests and kinks. It might not always be possible to know WHAT exactly we will do in each session, but it's more important HOW we do it.

HOW: We move at the speed of trust even if it means sloooooow growing of real pleasures, we value showing up as ourselves. Being real with feelings that come up is more important than having some kind of mentally pre-determined eXpEriENce.

WHY PLEASURE? WHY NOW?

Living in this moment in the UK is to witness how disarmed we stand before state violence. Our real needs for clean water, food, shelter, safety, dignity and belonging are subject to organised abandonment through the cost of living crisis, the housing crisis, ongoing pollution and privatisation, as well as state policies and investments designed to alienate, oppress and strip people of safety, belonging and dignity.

Here, pleasure is a crucial self-defense strategy within the bigger project of visionary world-building. We need access to pleasure and joy in our bodies so we don’t turn away from the collapse. Pleasure Gardening grew out of personal experiences of finding states of purpose, alignment, aliveness, and flow through devotion to loving bodily connection.

PLEASURE GARDEN THEORY

PLEASURE GARDENING (PG) is a transformative process through which people become more alive, more capable, more powerful together. It sees life’s meaning in becoming capable of new things, with others.

We see PLEASURE & JOY as not emotions but an increase in one’s power to affect and be affected.

PLEASURE GARDENING is the capacity to do and feel more. As such it is connected to creativity and the embrace of uncertainty. TRUE PLEASURE does not always feel comfortable or easy, as this force transforms and reorients us and our relationships.
JOY in this work is not the same as the image of HAPPINESS offered by Empire. JOYFUL transformation might involve happiness, and it can also entail a whole range of feelings: ecstasy, grief, overwhelm, excitement, pain, eeriness. By Empire we mean stultifying effects of the organised destruction under which we live. That which attempts to render everything profitable and controllable, administers war with other forms of life, and imposes rhythms and rituals that are isolating and absorptive of our lifeforce. PLEASURE GARDENING seeks to re-enchant the world with new rhythms and rituals.
